The Rose Within: Meeting the Parts of Ourselves with Love

There are moments in life when something long forgotten rises to the surface—almost like a whisper from the past, reminding us of something we once knew but had set aside. In a recent somatic coaching session, an invitation to drop into my breath became a doorway to a long-buried memory: a poem I wrote in grade 7, a delicate confession I had nearly forgotten.

I Am a Rose

(I remember the picture I drew for this poem—a rose hidden in the grass, next to a rock. In the background, a shadow of a person walking away.)

I am a rose hiding in the tall grass.
Can he see me?
Am I here?
Does he know that I am near?
Will he stop and look at me,
Or will he walk and leave me be?

I hadn’t thought about this poem in years, yet it arrived with such clarity, as if it had been waiting for the right moment to be seen again.

Connecting to Our Hidden Parts

In somatic coaching, we learn to meet what's arising—to listen to the subtle languages of our body and memory. This poem was more than words; it was a map to a hidden part of myself.

The rose wasn't just an image. She was me. A younger version of me—vulnerable, uncertain, longing to be seen. She carried a question deeper than her simple words: Am I worthy of being noticed?

Through breath and reflection, I could feel her presence, her longing. Instead of turning away, I chose to meet her.

Finding the Deeper Need

When we connect with the hidden parts within us, they often hold a deeper need—one that may have gone unmet for a long time.

My younger self wasn’t just asking to be seen by others. She was asking if I would see her.

"Will you stop and look at me, or will you walk and leave me be?"

And then, a realization. I had been the shadow in the picture all along—the one walking away. What she truly needed wasn’t external validation. It was my presence, my love, my willingness to turn toward her and say: "I see you. I am here."

Widening the View

Then, something shifted. I noticed the grass around her. I softened my focus. And suddenly, I saw what had been there all along—a field of roses behind her.

How often do we hold onto a narrow view of our experiences? Believing we are isolated, unseen, or separate—when in reality, we are surrounded by connection, support, and belonging?

Loving the Parts We Find

With this new awareness, I met her gaze and whispered,

"Ah, sweet rose… I will stop and look at you. Often."

That’s what these hidden parts of us truly long for—not to be fixed or changed, but simply to be acknowledged, loved, and held. These fragmented parts of ourselves aren’t broken. They aren’t seeking correction. They are simply waiting to be met with presence.

My younger self wasn’t asking to be different. She was asking to be seen. To be loved exactly as she was.

Every part of us—no matter how hidden, small, or forgotten—deserves our love. When we meet these parts with presence, we uncover their needs. When we widen our view, we see that they are never truly alone. And when we choose to love them, healing unfolds naturally.

So I invite you to ask yourself:
✨ What part of you is waiting to be seen?
✨ What does it need?
✨ Can you widen your view and offer it love today?

Somatic coaching teaches us that healing is not about changing ourselves, but about meeting ourselves with radical compassion.

I came across a song about women in sisterhood being roses. It felt like a beautiful confirmation of this experience. It also reminded me of the incredible women I’ve met on this journey—new friends and old. Each one of us a rose in the field, blooming and supporting one another.

So, here’s to all the women roses in my life. Let us remember, we are not alone. We are seen, heard, and deeply connected in this beautiful sisterhood.

I’d love to hear your reflections.

What rose within you is waiting to be acknowledged? 💛

With love, care and prayer Kristy T
